Why Now?Teddy began talking with other neighbors and they all felt the same thing- our parks were too important to lose to development, polluted air, and lack of attention through loss of funding and critical resource protection.
Teddy watched as the presidential candidates emerged, and not one of them was speaking about protecting his home and America's heritage. Teddy knew it was time to take action. Teddy decided that, if no one else was going to make national parks a national priority, then he would have to bear the responsibility. "I have to do what’s right for my community and my family and for future generations. I couldn’t stand aside any more. I’m going to make national parks a national priority, and I hope all of America will stand with me in this quest."
Teddy kicked off his campaign on September 29 during National Public Lands Day at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C.
